Bismillahi Al-Rahman Al-Raheem
Asalaamu Alaikam,
It’s that time of the week again. You’ve been suckered into reading this weekly review either through email, facebook, or threatened coercion, with the last of the three the most probable. It was another fantastic week from everyone’s standpoint. The Monday meeting saw us entertain our capacity audience with a guest appearance from Iman Qatanani of the Islamic Center of Passaic County. The topic was “Unveiling the Truth: Muslim Women in Islam” which usually relieves anyone responsible of advertising on the sisters’ side, because with a topic like that you can all but guarantee maximum attendance on that end. Alas, the event didn’t disappoint, as our beloved Imam spoke of the rights, roles, and values of women in Islam.

This year, we’re holding a competition to see who can make the BEST poster for our tent. The poster can be of any size and can be on any topic of your choice. Throughout the week, we’ll be featuring all the posters made and will pick the best one. The winner will receive a $100 gift card! Message us on Facebook and let us know how many posters you’ll be doing, as well as the topic(s).

Asalaamu Alaikum,
His father passed away before his birth.
He lived for a few years in the desert away from his mother.
His mother passed away when he was six years old.
His grandfather, his caretaker, passed away when he was ten years old.
In his most trying years, his first wife passed away.
His uncle who raised and supported him, passed away.
He left his place of birth due to persecution and had to migrate.
He buried all but one of his many children.
He bled from stones and rocks thrown at him, from adults to children, yet asked Allah to pardon them.
Someone tried to strangle him to death, unsuccessfully.
Someone tried to throw a heavy stone on him to kill him, unsuccessfully.
Many attempts were made on his life, unsuccessfully.
His beloved uncle Hamza (RA) was killed in battle, and his liver bitten into, by a woman who would later become Muslim. No revenge was taken.
He returned to the land he had to leave, and took no revenge on those that mocked and harassed him.

Asalaamu Alaikum,
Dear Brothers and Sisters, a tragedy occurred as Masjid Dawah of Illinois was burnt down. They need your help to continue. Their current rental space is only 1000 sq. ft. Masjid Dawah caters to the entire west-side community. For those of you who are not familiar with the ethnography of that area, it is similar to Brooklyn, New York. They have weekly reverts, and five daily Athaan callings on an outside loud speaker. They also have a Cook County Jail Outreach Program. And they need not just your support, but also of the whole Ummah. So please spread the word, and help.

Bismillahi Al-Rahman Al-Raheem
Asalaamu Alaikam,
Well, it’s the first installment of the “Rutgers-Newark MSA Week in Review”, and there’s really no shortage of things to review. Alhamdulillah, it’s been a somewhat unprecedented week, with the MSA holding two meetings, during Monday’s free period and Wednesday’s free period (in collaboration with NJIT MSA). Also two iftars on Monday and Thursday; part of our “Reviving the Sunnah” project. We’ve been blessed to have such great results this week, and it’s easy to see why we’ve been called the “Runaway Toyota” MSA. We don’t plan on stopping either.
The theme of the week has definitely been taking the initiative. And the MSA president did just that. Rizwan Ali led the Monday meeting this past week, with a lecture titled “Where is the answer to my Duaa?”. We learned about the etiquette of duaa, as well as how to strengthen it. It was an heartening experience for the capacity audience, who along with learning several new things about the dynamic power of making duaa to Allah (SWT), were given some very practical tips. This was received well by many, happy to stay afterward and ask questions to our lecturer. Read the rest of this entry »
